Lucky 15 explained

Four selections, fifteen bets: a Yankee plus the four singles — one winner already returns something.

A Lucky 15 is a Yankee with the four singles added: 4 singles + 6 doubles + 4 trebles + 1 four-fold = 15 bets. The singles mean a lone winner still returns money, and bookmakers often sweeten the product — double odds on a single winner, bonuses for all four.

The sweeteners exist because the base product carries fifteen units of margin. Price the whole package: fifteen bets at a typical 5% margin costs about 0.75 units in expectation before any bonus gives some of it back.

Worked example

£1 Lucky 15 (£15) on picks at 3.00 each. One winner with 'double odds on one winner': the single pays £1 × 5.00 = £5 (instead of £3) — still a £10 net loss. All four: singles £12 + doubles £54 + trebles £108 + four-fold £81 = £255. The consolation prizes are real but small; the product is priced on them feeling bigger than they are.
