How BLIK works
BLIK is run jointly by Poland's major banks: you open your banking app, generate a six-digit code valid for a couple of minutes, paste it into the merchant's checkout and confirm the payment back in the app. There is no card number, no wallet balance and no stored credential — which is precisely why it spread so fast.
At Ministry of Finance-licensed Polish bookmakers it is the standard deposit route, credited instantly. Unlicensed sites blocked on the national domain register cannot offer it, so BLIK availability is a rough proxy for a legal operator.
Deposits, withdrawals and the code rule
The single safety rule is absolute: a BLIK code is generated by you, for one payment, at the moment you pay. Anyone who asks you to read a code out — 'to verify your account', 'to receive a bonus' — is taking your money, and the transfer is irreversible. That scam is common enough in Poland that banks warn about it in-app.
Withdrawals do not go back through BLIK: payouts are made by ordinary bank transfer to an account in your own name, usually within a working day. Verification is checked before the first one, so complete it early.
The tax that changes your maths
Poland taxes betting turnover at 12% — every stake, win or lose — and licensed operators price it into their odds. That is why Polish prices look shorter than German or British ones on the same match, and it has nothing to do with which payment method you use.
On top of that, single-bet winnings above 2,280 PLN carry a 10% tax withheld at payout. Neither figure is a payments issue, but both decide whether a price carries value: convert the offered odds to an implied probability, then ask whether your estimate still beats it after the haircut.
- A six-digit code from your banking app, valid for minutes, for one payment only
- Never share a BLIK code with anyone — that is the standard Polish payment scam
- Deposits are instant; withdrawals arrive by bank transfer to an account in your name
- The 12% turnover tax is already inside Polish odds; winnings over 2,280 PLN carry 10% more
Frequently asked questions
Do Polish betting sites accept BLIK?
Licensed ones do — it is the default deposit method. Sites on the national register of prohibited domains cannot process it, which makes BLIK support a useful legality signal.
Can I withdraw betting winnings with BLIK?
No. BLIK handles deposits; payouts are made by bank transfer to an account in your own name, normally within a working day.
Why are Polish betting odds shorter?
Licensed operators pay a 12% tax on turnover and price it into the odds. It applies regardless of payment method and is the cost of a legally enforceable market.
