What scoring charts tell a bettor (and what they don't)

Goal tallies are a record of finishing plus opportunity, and the two separate badly. A forward on twelve goals from a side creating chances all season is a different player from one on twelve at a team that barely attacks — and the second is usually finishing above their sustainable rate. Over a long enough run, conversion drifts back toward the underlying chance quality, which is why our model works from team scoring rates rather than individual hot streaks.

The penalty column matters more than most tables admit. A striker whose total leans on spot kicks depends on their team winning penalties and on keeping the duty — both of which can vanish overnight. Strip penalties out before comparing two players' open-play threat.

Where this page genuinely helps match betting is context for goal markets: whether a team's scoring is concentrated in one player, and what happens to a totals line when that player is missing. That link is real, but it is a nudge rather than an edge — the market prices absences quickly.
